Teach ESL students privately through Adult English School

G'day. Want to get some casual work teaching privately through Adult English School? We're currently looking for established private ESL tutors who need students and wish to represent us in their own cities. Are you in Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Darwin or Hobart?

Basic Requirements:

1. A.B.N. (We only hire contractors as the hours vary day to day and some weeks there may not be any work at all! You must be able to issue us with an invoice)

2. TESOL certificate

3. Australian accent (for teaching Australian history, rhyming slang, Oz expressions and more) Note: We're an equal opportunity employer so it doesn't matter where you're from, just as long as you can do a good Australian accent if you're teaching Australian English to one of our students!

4. Ability to swap between a strong Australian accent and clear, enunciated English.

5. Ability to teach basic pronunciation techniques

6. Flexible times. Ability to work at times such as 6:30pm to 9:30pm weekdays and at various times Saturdays or Sundays.

7. Strong interest in teaching CONVERSATIONAL English using realia.

8. Knowledge of teaching IELTS preparation (further training can be provided using our in-house exercises)

9. Ability to analyse your student and create your own lessons for them. Each student's problem should be individually targeted and exercises would be created by you specifically for that student.

10. Active, energetic with a sense of fun. Some students might want to have a lesson in a pub or night club. If in Sydney, you should able to attend occasional pub nights with students in your own time (see KayoubiBar)

11. Endless patience!

Conditions

1. You should know of a good cafe in the city that you're based where you can conduct private lessons with minimal distractions. While teaching from your home sounds like a good idea, if you haven't got Personal Liability Insurance, it's safer if you teach in a cafe or other place that has its own insurance.

2. You would collect the fees set by Adult English School from the students and bank it into Adult English School's account once per week. You would then email us a tax invoice. Invoices will be processed via transfers to your nominated bank account. (Yes, it sounds a bit complicated but it makes our accountants and the ATO happy) We do not charge GST. If the student requires a receipt we can email them one.

3. Payments are a set fee per hour based on hours taught. Some students may pay us in advance. We will advise you if this is the case and pay you accordingly.

4. Please note: We cannot pay you if a student cancels. Payment is based on hours taught only.

5. Photopies and other materials are your responsibility. We do have a collection of standard exercises to get you started with your first lesson and we can assist you with other exercises and files, depending on what the student has requested from us, but once you have had a lesson with the student you will know better than us what that student needs and your experience will enable you to better target that individual student through developing your own exercises for them.

6. To add your CV to our database and have someone contact you to arrange a telephone interview, please click here.

Many thanks

James Hogan
