About
our discontinued General IELTS Preparation seminar
Who
is this seminar for?
It is for anyone
who hasn't done an IELTS exam and would like an overview of what to expect.
What
will I get?
-
Tips and strategies
-
Advice on common
mistakes
-
Example questions
-
Over 70 pages of
information and exercises to take home
Our General IELTS Preparation seminar
focuses on tips and strategies that can help you improve your IELTS exam
result by pointing out the common mistakes people make and giving you a
chance to practice example exams in your own time.
In the 4 hour course you get to try doing
some listening and reading exercises as well as receive about 70 pieces
of paper with exercises and information on them!
Am
I suitable for this seminar?
The focus of the 4 hour IELTS Preparation
course is to help students who are preparing to apply for permanent residency
or a 485 visa. While academic students are welcome, the seminar looks at
the General IELTS exam for immigration and work sponsorship purposes.
If you wish to apply for permanent residency
through a 485 visa you need a 5 in every section of IELTS for vocational
jobs and a 6 in every section of IELTS for professional jobs. The October
2008 Australian immigration legislation change requires you to have this
before you apply for your 485 visa. So, it is now even more important to
pass that exam as soon as possible!
This
seminar is NOT for someone who is going to do the exam next week!
Our
seminar is for someone who is planning to do the exam
in
3-6 months' time and wants to know where to start.
This course will give you an overview of
the exam so that you can prepare yourself for it. Please note that it is
not a replacement for serious daily study. It is just an overview to better
prepare yourself for the exam. Lots of advice given including what sort
of study regime you should follow once you've been to the seminar.
What
is the IELTS exam?
-
For non-native English
speakers
-
University entrance
requirement
-
Permanent residency
application requirement
IELTS. The International English Language
Testing System is an exam for people wanting to study in Australia or for
those who wish to move to Australia permanently.
The IELTS exam enables you to attend colleges
and universities, and is a requirement for the Permanent Residence application.
In some places you can't get a job without
an acceptable IELTS result.
If you have found this page then you already
know how difficult the IELTS exam is. Even native speakers have trouble
getting a band score of 8 out of 9. Imagine how difficult it must be for
non-native speakers!
Differences
between General and Academic IELTS
The Academic IELTS exam has a much harder
reading and writing section. The listening and speaking sections are the
same in both General and Academic. So, if you plan to do the Academic exam
and wish to find out how to improve your speaking and listening skills
this course may still be helpful to you.
Our course concentrates on helping people
with the General IELTS exam but we will briefly talk about the Academic
exam. If you plan to do the Academic exam, additional exercises can be
given to you. Tips on what to write for Writing Part 1 in the Academic
exam are available at the seminar on request.

How
do I register for the IELTS exam?
We can help you with preparation but you
will need to contact your local University in person to apply for an IELTS
exam. Please note that there is currently a 3 to 4 month waiting list as
most people book 3 exams in advance. Please also note that even if you
have a Master's degree in English you can still get a low mark in the IELTS
exam! Find out at the seminar why.
What's
the size of the class?
Classes sizes are usually 6 to 8 with
a maximum of 10, so there's time to ask questions.
Sounds great, doesn't it!?!
You can register
